On the cold and foggy evening of Wednesday 28th June Melita Stadium came alive for the GDSFA showpiece of the season, the 2017 My Game Guru Cottam Cup Grand Final. What was set to be an exhilarating local derby did not disappoint with Auburn FC crowned champions after a 3-1 win.
Auburn FC were first on the scoreboard with a goal by Vitor Silva. Adem Taslak then doubled their lead to finish the first half at 2-0.
The half time talk must have fired up Auburn District as Berhan Kassem found the back of the net first in the second half to bring his team back into contention for the prestigious cup.
Auburn District continued to push however, a late goal by Ercan Topal sealed the match for Auburn FC.
GDSFA were also very honoured and privileged to have Gary Bligh and his sister Annette Lowe in attendance on the night. Both Gary and Annette are relatives of John Willie Cottam, a private killed in action in the First World War.
The association is also overwhelmed on the presentation of a treasured premiers cap from the 1914 Granville Magpie invincibles that Gary and Annette donated to us.

The Association would also like to thank My Game Guru, sponsors of the Cottam Cup. Representing My Game Guru on the night was Western Sydney Wanderers Striker Brendon Santalab. Brendon was impressed with the atmosphere of the night and certainly enjoyed seeing the goal scored by Auburn District to keep them in contention.
To quote Brendon,
“We (My Game Guru) are so glad that we sponsored this tournament with so much Football History everybody should know more about the Cottam Cup and to see a 1914 Premiers cap is amazing something I’ll never forget”
Congratulations on your win Auburn FC.
