The following teams have made it to the penultimate stage of the 2018 Cottam Cup:
Inter Lions SC, from the Canterbury District Soccer Football Association (CDSFA), was established in 1983 and are based in Concord, Sydney.
They reached the semi-finals by beating Pendle Hill B 14-0, Rydalmere FC B 14-1, and Parramatta City A 3-1. That’s 31 goals for and only 4 against and thus are surely one of the favourites to reach the Grand Final.
Glebe Gorillas, from the Eastern Suburbs Football Association, were founded in 2010 and have their home ground in East Sydney’s Centennial Park.
They reached the semi-finals by beating Rydalmere FC A 6-1, luckily scoring a bye in the 2nd round due to an abandoned match, and then beating Auburn District A 7-1 in the quarter finals. They’ve only conceded 2 goals so far in the tournament and should give Inter Lions SC a great semi-final match up.
Granville Kewpies Ariana, the GDSFA’s last remaining hope in this year’s Cottam Cup, was established in 1919 and are based in South Granville.
They reached the semi-finals with a 4-0 round 1 win against Sydney Dragon FC A, a 2-1 (AET) win against Hills Hawks FC, and a 2-0 win against Pendle Hill FC A in the quarter finals.
Earlwood Wanderers FC, the other CDSFA side still left in the competition, was founded in 1946 and are located in the heart of Earlwood, 11kms from the Sydney CBD New South Wales.
They reached the semi-finals by a forfeit win in the first round, they beat Holroyd Rangers 4-3 in a close match in round 2, then they beat Greystanes FC A 4-1 in the quarter finals.
They might find it tough going against a Kewpies side that will have all clubs in the GDSFA urging them on to victory.
Both semi-final matches are scheduled for Wednesday 30th May 2018 at the following locations:
- Inter Lions vs Glebe Gorillas, Ron Routley Oval, Concord West, at 7pm
- Granville Kewpies Ariana vs Earlwood Wanderers FC, Horlyck Reserve, South Granville, at 7:30pm
Good luck to all four teams!
