Congratulations to the following GDSFA teams who played in the combined GDSFA/BDSFA Grand Finals over the weekend.
AAL 1 – Greystanes 4 def Rydalmere 3
Being an all GDSFA final in our first year of the combined competition we asked the girls to put on a show for the spectators and they didn’t disappoint. Rydalmere took the early intiative and went 1-0 up and looked in control before Greystanes got one back to make it 1-1. Some fantastic interchange play down the left hand side saw a first time pinpoint left foot cross met by the Rydalmere striker to place a header in the top corner as they went up 2-1. Greystanes once again fought back and a free kick from distance equalised once again 2-2. Just when you though it couldnt get any better some brilliant individual play down the right saw a curled shot from outside the box hit the back of the net and at the break Rydalmere went in up 3-2. Second half was more of the same, these two teams just kept going at each other and eventually Greystanes found a back post chip over the keeper from a cross to lock it up once again 3-3. Both teams had chances to go ahead and with the extreme pace of the game it looked like both teams were very tired and extra time was looming until an inspired substitution from Greystanes saw a fresh player come on and win a challenge at the edge of the box and slide across the face of the goal to an unmarked player for the winner. Although a 4-3 win to Greystanes, there were 30 players out there that deserved the winners medallions. Rydalmere contributed to a fantastic game of football and a great advertisement for GDSFA football in the combined competition. Well done to Greystanes who are Champions once again and this was an incredible finish to an incredible day and both teams and coaches need to be congratulated on the performance.
