Premier League Game Day held at Melita Stadium

The GDSFA held a very successful Premier League game day on Sunday July 22, incorporating all 4 games into a combined White Ribbon match round. As the GDSFA supports education and prevention of violence against women, players wore white armbands to emphase the point that women’s safety is a man’s issue too. Just under $1000 was collected on the day with big donations coming from the players themselves.

Granville Waratah & Auburn District’s U14/1 teams kicked off the day with a keenly contested match which saw the Auburn team come out on top by a scoreline of 4-0.

Rydalmere FC and Sydney Dragons kicked off the premier league games at 12 noon with a injury-depleted 9-man Rydalmere team holding out a determined Dragons outfit for a scoreless draw.

Pendle Hill versus Granville Kewpie Ariana was up next which the Kewpies were desperate to win to keep their finals hopes alive. Win they duly did with 2 excellently taken second half goals and a clean sheet adding some gloss to the victory.

A very entertaining match between Greystanes FC and Holroyd Rangers kicked off at 4pm which saw Holroyd take the lead only for Greystanes to equalize mid-way through the second half. Their joy was short-lived however with Holroyd scoring once more to win the game 2-1. It is a battle royale for 4th place on the table with Holroyd just a point ahead, although Kewpies have a game in hand.

The last match of the day saw first on the table take on second place, pitting Parramatta City against Auburn District. A very tight game looked like going into the break scoreless until Auburn scored with virtually the last kick of the half. Auburn and Parramatta continued where they left off the first half with end-to-end action in the second until Auburn made sure of the win with their second goal of the match. Parramatta still hold onto first place on the table on 38 points but if Auburn with both of their games in hand, they will only be 3 points behind.

Thanks to all that attended the 5 matches, we hope you enjoyed our first ever Premier League game day at Melita Stadium!
